Imagine waking up one day to find your entire wardrobe gone. How much would it cost to replace everything? £1,000? £2,000? Even more?
For many transgender people, this isn’t hypothetical, it’s a reality they face at some point in their lives. Transition often requires rebuilding a wardrobe from scratch, and even the first round of clothing frequently needs replacing as body shape, style, and confidence evolve and change.
This comes with a significant financial burden. Transgender people are more likely to face unemployment and, due to extreme NHS waiting lists, often have to pursue private medical care. Clothing becomes just one of many costly necessities.
On top of this, trans people are expected to keep moving forward with their lives while navigating enormous personal change. They must learn how to dress in a way that feels right for their gender, organise name and document changes, adapt socially, sometimes train their voice, and build new skills, all while managing work, study, and everyday responsibilities. Unlike most cisgender people, many trans people don’t get the chance to experiment with clothing and self-expression during adolescence.

Our Unique Solution
Image In offers personalised styling sessions for transgender and gender-nonconforming people, using donated clothing, shoes, and accessories.
During a session, service users can explore a wide range of styles in a supportive, pressure-free environment, with guidance from our volunteers tailored to their needs, goals, and comfort. Trying on as many clothes as they want to.
Items chosen during the appointment are theirs to take home, helping them build a wardrobe that reflects who they are and supports their gender expression with confidence.
We provide this service by redistributing clothing donated to us by individuals and businesses, preventing clothing from ending up in landfill and finding it a new home, by providing clothing in this way we provide a safe space for people to explore and express gender euphoria without judgement.
